University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity is inviting people across Dorset to come together on Friday 17 May 2024 to take part in the Twilight Walk.

For everybody who has ever faced or lost loved ones to breast cancer, the local community can walk side by side along the Bournemouth promenade after the sun sets to support one another.

In the eleventh year of this much-loved event, the funds raised will support the breast cancer team at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Every penny will go towards providing additional pieces of equipment to help the team with diagnosis and surgical procedures to treat their patients with breast cancer.

Meeting at 7.30pm and setting off from Bournemouth Pier Approach at 8pm, everybody is welcome to get involved and join in this meaningful walk and have fun along the way to raise awareness of breast health.
People of any abilities can take part. Whether it’s a gentle 5k or challenging 10k walk or run, it’s a walk with that extra sparkle.

Charity Fundraiser, Amy Beauchamp said: “The Twilight Walk is for everybody impacted by breast cancer and for anybody who may face it in the future. The theme is ‘shine bright’! Everybody is invited to sparkle and shine like the star they are. We’re encouraging people to think glittery tops, sparkly accessories or even metallic shoes! Or if you prefer something a little more subtle, you can try white clothing or reflective materials that catch the light. Remember, there’s no wrong way to shine at our event. So be creative, have fun and let your inner star shine bright!”

Consultant surgeon, Mark Tatterton said: “It’s great that there’s an event nearby as easy as this to get involved in. Particularly for people remembering loved ones or for those who have fought their way to recovery. While we can’t stop cancer, together we can help raise funds to help treat it and aim to make this year’s event brighter than ever before.”

This year, the Twilight Walk will help us raise funds for KUBTEC equipment that will help improve our theatre efficiency and the ever-increasing demand for patient imaging at the Dorset Breast Screening Unit. To help us achieve this, University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity is asking each participant to do their best to raise a fundraising target of £75.

Since 2013, thousands of Twilight Walkers have raised vital funds for breast and gynaecological projects. This has funded items that provide instant blood test results for patients on the Early Pregnancy Unit, a Urodynamic Machine to investigate bladder symptoms and a cold Coagulator machine for cervical screening treatments to name a few.
