Location: Portland

Connected to the mainland by a narrow neck of land, the limestone peninsula of Portland has provided stone for many of the country’s most famous buildings including St Paul’s Cathedral. The 136 feet high lighthouse of Portland Bill, which was built in 1903-03 to replace earlier structures, warns whipping away from dangerous channels.
