FUKUSHIMA, a play by John Foster (Portland)

Details

FUKUSHIMA

A play by John Foster dramatising the 2011 Fukushima nuclear plant disaster following the combined impact of earthquake and tsunami, together with the ecological aftermath and worldwide consequences as radio-active debris is washed up on foreign coastlines.

“We’re at that tipping point – environmentally. Fukushima is therefore a very relevant play.” John Foster

11th March 2011. 2.46 pm.
The Great Sendai Earthquake strikes Japan, triggering the second-worst nuclear accident in history.  Drawn from eyewitness accounts, this powerful play examines the events surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi disaster, illuminating differing perspectives of those inside the plant or in the vicinity at the time.  These are the stories of the people, the Fukushima 50, their families, the people who lived in Fukushima, and the visiting foreign technicians who escaped in time.  It is the story of the ecological aftermath and worldwide consequences as radio-active debris washes up on distant shores.
