Kids Go Free this half-term at Dorset Museum

Kids Go Free and half-term activities at Dorset Museum inspired by Louise Bourgeois

Dorset Museum is offering free admission for kids during the half-term holiday from May 27th to June 4th, 2023. You can bring as many children as you like, as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult. This is a great opportunity to explore the exhibits and participate in family-friendly activities.

The Museum will host a range of workshops and community events inspired by artworks on display in our current exhibition ARTIST ROOMS Louise Bourgeois.

On Tuesday 30th May, Thursday 1st, and Sunday 4th June, visitors of all ages can participate in our community weaving project. Inspired by Bourgeois’s large spider climbing the Museum’s entrance hall wall and the recurring imagery of webs in her work, everyone is invited to get creative and collaborate to make a new piece for the Museum’s Sculpture Courtyard. The Museum’s volunteers and Art Fund students will be on hand to guide participants through various techniques over the three-day event.

On Saturday 3rd June, visitors can explore some of the themes and techniques of Bourgeois’s art with fine art practitioners at an art workshop for adults. Participants will develop their responses through drawing and relief lino printing on Japanese paper. All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is needed – all abilities are welcome. This workshop has 12 places and needs to be booked in advance.
