The Thomas Hardy Archives: A Talk by Dr Ruth Burton, Project Archivist
In mid-March 2024, Dr Ruth Burton began work to catalogue the internationally significant archives of author Thomas Hardy on deposit at Dorset History Centre to make them more accessible for research. She has been assisted by a team of dedicated volunteers and colleagues at Dorset History Centre.
This talk will celebrate the conclusion of the project and the newly launched catalogue. Funding for this project has been generously provided by the Dorset Archives Trust, The National Archives, The Valentine Trust, The Cooper-Dean Charitable Foundation, and The National Trust, together with a large number of public donations.
Tickets £10 for DAT members, £12 for non members. Please book via ticketsource.
Tickets include a glass of wine and nibbles (please note that these may not be suitable for people with food allergies).
Doors open at 6:30pm.
This talk is given in support of Dorset Archives Trust a charity that works to preserve and promote Dorset’s rich archival heritage. Its strapline is ‘Saving Dorset’s disappearing history’ and it undertakes this work by fundraising, holding events, supporting projects and promoting the value of archives. DAT works closely with the Dorset History Centre in Dorchester which holds archive collections dating back over 1000 years from across Bournemouth, Poole and wider Dorset.
