Lyme Regis VE Day 80 Torchlight Procession & Beacon Lighting
When VE Day dawns on 8th May 2025 it will be 80 years since the guns fell silent at the end of World War II in Europe.
A torchlight procession and beacon lighting will mark the anniversary and commemorate those who fought for freedom. It provides an opportunity to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life who saw us through this dark period.
Join us to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day by taking part in a torchlight procession.
Take part – buy your torches at https://lymeregiscarnival.co.uk/veday80
At 8.45pm Langmoor and Lister Gardens will flow with a river of light as participants walk with flaming torches through the gardens down onto the Sandy Beach where a ring of fire will be formed. The town’s Mayor, accompanied by the Town Crier will then light a beacon on the North Wall of the harbour at 9.30pm.
Purchase your torches or children’s LED batons online and collect from 8pm on the night of the event at the Pound Street entrance to Langmoor Gardens.
A limited number of torches and LED batons will be on sale on the night, subject to availability. Numbers will be limited, so we advise you to reserve online to avoid disappointment.
