Details
Across 2 weeks we’ve got lots of snowdrop-related events for you and your family to enjoy. Including the world famous study day and ‘Best in the West’ snowdrop sale and our stunning evening lantern parade.
Whether you’re visiting Shaftesbury for the day or longer, there are a host of places to see snowdrops, make a snowdrop craft, take a walk, swim in cold water, shop or just enjoy our hilltop town and it’s blossoms.

The Old Vicarage Garden Open Day
NGS garden open day at The Old Vicarage. A chance to visit a garden that has featured in Homes and Gardens, The Telegraph, The Independent and many more.
Snowdrop strider walk
This is a 75 minute walk at a fast pace with photo opportunities to enjoy the snowdrops along the way.
Snowdrop Study Day 2025
We are delighted to welcome our Study Day speakers for 2025 from the island of Texel in the Netherlands.
Texel has been a Galanthus hot spot since the 1950s when the bulbs were planted in the island’s pine forests.
The lectures will be followed by the Best in the West Sale of rare and collectables

Trinity Tower opening
Climb the tower for amazing views.
The Best in the West Sale
Rare and collectable snowdrops will be for sale at Shaftesbury Town Hall.
Snow Moon – cold water swim at Shaftesbury Lid
Westcroft Garden Open Day
NGS Garden Open Day at Westcroft. Drifts of snowdrops carpet the floor whilst throughout is a growing collection of well over 500 named varieties.
Snowdrop stroll #1
Meet outside King Alfred’s Kitchen.
Shaftesbury walking group will lead us around the best snowdrop spots in town with plenty of photo stops and some snowdrop facts along the way.

The grand finale of Shaftesbury’s snowdrop festival is the lantern parade.

Seed and Bulb Sale
Come and shop for organic seeds, spring bulbs and snowdrops.
Community choir – listen and join in
Snowdrop Lantern making
Make a giant snowdrop lantern with local artist, Des Alner, and bring it along to the parade on February 22nd.
