Hand Printed Christmas Cards and Tags
Come and enjoy a handmade, hand-printed Christmas!
In this creative workshop, you’ll learn how to transfer a design onto a piece of lino, which you will then carve and use to hand-print your Christmas cards. There should also be time to create a small additional block, so you can make gift tags too.
Festive design ideas will be provided, so no special drawing skills are needed to enjoy this class, and all the processes will be clearly demonstrated.
Greeting card blanks, envelopes, and tags will be provided, along with all the other tools and materials needed, including traditional hessian-backed lino, carving tools, and a range of coloured inks.
The lino will measure 7.5 x 7.5 cm, ideal for printing on cards that are 12 x 12 cm square. You’ll also be able to take your carved lino block home, so you can print additional cards for family and friends. Everyone will receive an information sheet with a list of suppliers for the materials needed.
There may also be an opportunity to purchase extra supplies on the day (cash payments only).
About Sarah
Sarah, who lives in Shaftesbury North Dorset, trained in graphic design and illustration at Bath Art Collage, graduating in the early 1990’s, and has been a practicing artist ever since.
After attending an inspirational and immersive weekend course of lino cut about 15 years ago, she now focuses mainly on printmaking. She is passionate about the countryside and creates decorative prints, with nature providing the reference for the designs; mainly close-up details of plants and flowers but also wider views and subjects from the countryside.
Lino is such a versatile medium and Sarah has more recently started printing onto fabric and is delighted to find a whole world of possibilities for her designs!
She loves the opportunities that running a workshop provides – collaborating with inspirational venues, the sociability of meeting new people and, of course, the pleasure of passing on the skills needed to make successful linocuts.
The best thing about running a workshop is witnessing the moment of delight as a student sees their print appear from a simple, inky block of lino for the first time.
