Arte-facts – A Layperson’s Guide to Metal Detecting
Join accomplished Metal Detectorists Karen Brown and Keith Brown (no relation) for an intriguing and informative talk about this fascinating hobby. They will tell you all you need to know and much more; they’ll talk about treasure finds, the law, what you might find and where, and about detectors and the hobby in general.
They will have a large selection of artefacts for you to see and enjoy.
Karen studied archaeology at Yeovil College. She now plays an active part in the organisation of Wareham and District Archaeology and Local History Society and recently spent a year as part of the team at the Putton Lane excavation of a deserted medieval village, and at the Druce Farm Roman Villa near Dorchester.
Keith is best known for finding the hoard of gold Celtic staters (coins) which are now in Dorset Museum, along with several of his other finds. He’s also helped several people find cherished items of jewellery that they had lost. He has his own YouTube channel – Hopeus Maximus, with videos of his work.
