“Thank you so much for all your antenatal support, it really did make a big difference. I was very assertive throughout and didn’t let them do anything I didn’t want them to do. It made me feel very empowered and definitely contributed to such an amazing experience of labour [with twins!] junior doctor SL, Dorchester“Just a massive thank you for the course, your knowledge and support, and introducing us to new friends. Looking forward to meeting up with our babies in the future and I know I can always contact you for help and advice once baby is here” SR Weymouth”
“Yes! It was a really cozy, safe space where you felt that no question was too silly, you could share personal worries and or stories and those concerns would not only be heard but addressed. A really lovely environment, we were very nervous before the first session – mainly we are rubbish at meeting new people but it really was lovely and became something we looked forward to each week. I think the dads were all very well included and it was highlighted just what they can be doing to help and preserve the safe space for women in labour. When we did our NCT class years ago this was not really the case – so I think its brilliant to be saying – you can’t physically push the baby out – but you can enable her to by doing X Y Z”
…”not a single question went unanswered and everything was explained in a way that we could all understand. All of the so called ‘oxytocin feedback loop’ was really useful, just knowing what to expect, how to relax and how to boost oxytocin and facilitate a more productive labour. The practical skills are invaluable – positions and using woven fabric wraps to aid aches and pains during pregnancy and during labour. Also the nappy section and breastfeeding advice”
At our Dorchester Antenatal classes – our aim is to help enable you as parents – and prospective parents – to look forward to having children, and for you to have as easy and pleasurable a life with your baby as is possible. Make use of our combined training, years of experience and make new friends!
We look forward to meeting you in our classes.
Feel calmer more supported more ready for your birth and parenting journey
YOUR birth YOUR baby YOUR choice
We cover: Why does birth start when it does? What happens? What you can do to help or hinder the natural processes? We will be discussing your expectations, physical and emotional changes that occur in pregnancy and the way they prepare us for birth. We particularly hope that partners will also feel included, valued, and prepared. We cover natural and medical interventions, coping mechanisms, and support for all circumstances. We will leave plenty of time for discussing your birth preferences to help you figure out what is important to you and how to mesh what you want with what you need for a truly empowering birth. Also being your own advocate and getting the best support from your care providers. After the birth: your first moments with your baby, the ’3rd stage’ and your baby’s first feed. Interventions after birth and how to support your body as you recover. The 1st few days with your new baby, looking after yourself after your baby is born, how important it is to prepare for a quiet uninterrupted time for you both to get to know your baby.
Your baby: Understanding your newborn and how they might feel, their brain development, why they might cry, a range of slings and how to tie them, ways to calm your baby, womb to world differences, bonding, skin to skin. We will also cover a bit of practical baby care, feeding, what you’ll need (and not need!), handling babies, using cloth nappies etc
“Really friendly, supportive course run by 2 very enthusiastic knowledgeable people. Thorough run through of what to expect during pregnancy and labour. How to boost your chances of a natural delivery.. but also what interventions may be offered or required, and how partners can get involved. All designed to empower parents to get the best from their pregnancy and labour. Lots of practical skills too eg massage techniques, sling making, reusable nappies and breastfeeding. Highly recommend for all parents, good value for money” SR Dorchester (a local GP who did our course). More testimonials see here https://www.happybabies.tk/testimonials-happy-babies…
