Gallery by the Lakes: Flight An Exhbition of Birds
Details
Gallery by the Lakes is delighted to present Flight, a multidisciplinary group exhibition.
Birds have fascinated humans from the beginning of time, and the history of depicting birds goes back thousands of years to a time when people took to cave walls to capture winged creatures and other animals. Our fascination with flight, the feelings of freedom and movement are inextricably connected with birds, so it is no surprise to learn that birds appear in the art of every culture throughout the ages.
Within the beautiful 26 acre park at Sculpture by the Lakes, birds continually delight both visitors and staff alike from season to season, and we are often told stories of connections people have made with the birds here, from love stories centred around Kingfishers to the feeling a loved one is nearby when a friendly Robin is seen frequently around the park. From our friendly Muscovy Duck, to Grebes, families of Swans and Geese, Kingfishers and Tits, there are many species to see here. So it only seems right that depictions of birds by our gallery artists prove so popular amongst our visitors.
With that in mind, we have curated a show of the best avian works across a multitude of disciplines by our artists. From sculptures such as Simon Gudgeon’s ‘Bird of Happiness’ inspired by Cranes, to birds in flight by Paul Harvey, plus two-dimensional works by established artists such as Jonathan Sainsbury, Ray Harris Ching, and Tianyin Wang.
