Corfe Castle – Medieval games
Have fun with friends and family playing traditional games as you explore the castle ruins.
Throwing games: Hand tennis and Quoits
Hand tennis – the earliest tennis-like games don’t use rackets, just your hands and a rope net. Use your imagination to create your own rules.
Quoits –throw rope rings over the pins to score the most points.
Bowling games: Crown green bowls, Ninepins and Kayles
Crown green bowls – roll your coloured balls so that they stop as close to the Jack as you can.
Ninepins – roll your ball to hit as many pins as possible. Don’t miss the Kingpin or your points won’t count!
Kayles – Throw the beanbag through the air to knock the pins over. The aim of the game is to be the person who knocks the last pin over.
Board games: Morris – Play your counters one at a time to create Mills, vertical or horizontal lines of three in a row. Every time this is achieved, an opponent’s piece is removed. Aim to reduce the number of opponent’s pieces to less than three or to render the opponent unable to play.
Have a friendly game with friends and family or keep score as you create your own rules and points system. However you decide to play, there is fun to be had for all ages.
