If you’re twitching to do something in the fresh air this weekend, why not head over to Avon Heath country park for some crafting and birdwatching.

The Dorset County Council run country park will be running a workshop on Saturday where you can learn to build your own birdbox.

This will be followed by a series of events, including a scavenger hunt, spotting birds on the heath and learning about the unique environment that heathland offers for wildlife.

Carol Dawkins, country ranger at Avon Heath country park, said:

“Many rare species thrive in Dorset’s heathlands, from Dartford warblers to the silver-studded blue. This is a great opportunity to learn more and enjoy some of Dorset’s most unique landscape.”

To book a place on the birdbox building workshop, which costs £6.50 and runs from 11am to 3pm, call (01425) 478470. The scavenger hunt is free – just turn up on the day. For more information, go to www.dorsetforyou.com/avonheath.
