Plea of Help from Cancer Research UK to keep Ferndown Relay For Life Alive!

26/01/2012

Over the past few years Ferndown Relay For Life have raised over £175,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Due to a variety of reasons various members of the organising committee are unable to continue to organise the 2012 event.

In an urgent call for help, the local representatives have written the following letter to all past participants, but if you know of anybody that may be able to help, please pass these details onto them.

THANK YOU

——————

Dear Relayer,

Thank you for taking part in Relay For Life In 2011. Across the UK, Relay raised over 2 million pounds, which will now be spent on our life-saving work to help beat cancer, and keep families together for longer.

You will no doubt have a very personal reason as to why you took part in Relay. The experience is something that can be of celebration, remembrance, can help to gather strength and can even help the healing process.

We’d love to make the 2012 Relay season our best yet, but we need your help to do so.

In order for Relays to go ahead, it takes the dedication and commitment of some very special people in your community, who volunteer to be Committee members. In Ferndown, we need to recruit some of these people, or sadly, this Relay will not be able to proceed in 2012.

On average our Relay For Life events raised over £42,000 each in 2011, so every event that is lost really impacts on our ability to fund research and make a difference.

Unfortunately in Ferndown, there have been a number of committee members confirm that they are not able to organise Relay in 2012 – which is why we need other people in the community to step up and help us. It would be a real shame if Ferndown were to lose the opportunity to carry on as part of the biggest fundraiser in the world!

You would receive plenty of support from Cancer Research UK – from materials and information on how to successfully organise the Relay, through to staff contacts who can assist you every step of the way.

However, it’s the personal gratification that is no doubt the biggest reward.

If you feel strongly about keeping Relay For Life in Ferndown and would be able to assist in any way at all, please come along to Ferndown Leisure Centre, Cherry Grove, Ferndown, BH22 9EZ anytime between 4pm – 7pm next Thursday 2nd February for an informal chat with myself and Dorset Area Volunteer Manager Ros Fry OR contact me on Email: chris.babb@cancer.org.uk or M: 07880737927 (If you plan to  come along next week could you please indicate this by sending me an e-mail).

Together we will beat cancer.

Best wishes,

Chris
