Free Give or Take event comes to Portland

26/01/2012

Weymouth and Portland residents are being invited to take part in a free Give or Take Day event on Portland.

The event will be held at North Portland Working Men’s Club, East Street, Underhill, on Saturday 28 January from 9.30am to noon.

Items can be dropped off from 9.15am to 11.30am on the day . Parking in the local area can be very limited.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council brief holder for environment and sustainability Councillor Ian Roebuck said: “These free events are not only a chance for you to get rid of unwanted items and to pick up something you want but also help to encourage recycling in the community and reduce waste going to landfill.

“Even more importantly, they are a real focus for local residents to work together and help each other putting community action into practice.”

Anyone can take away any item they can re use for free.  You do not have to give anything to take an item away.

Please bring along:

  • Books
  • Toys
  • Clothes
  • Tools
  • Bric-a-brac
  • Kitchenware
  • Small furniture
  • Jewellery
  • Bikes and bike parts

  • Working electrical equipment

No gas items, hazardous substances or large items can be exchanged and all items must be able to fit in a car.

Representatives from Weymouth and Portland Borough Council will be on hand with information on your local recycling schemes, stopping junk mail, reusable nappies and other ways to reduce your waste.

Refreshments will be available to purchase on the day.

The event is being held by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.
