WIMBORNE SAFER NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAMS SETTLE INTO THE SADDLE OF THEIR NEW BICYCLES

24/01/2012

Wimborne Safer Neighbourhood Teams are busy patrolling the area on their new bicycles thanks to the generous contributions of various partner agencies.

In total, eight bicycles were purchased for Wimborne Safer Neighbourhood teams by various partner agencies after the existing bicycles had fallen into a state of disrepair.

Wimborne Town and Leigh Park Safer Neighbourhood Team received three bicycles funded by Synergy Housing,Wimborne Minster Town Council & Wimborne Business Improvement District (B.I.D) and the Leigh Park Residents Association.

Stour Ward Safer Neighbourhood Team secured one bicycle funded by Synergy Housing.

Colehill Safer Neighbourhood Team were given two bicycles purchased by the Colehill Parish Council and Colehill Home Watch.

Corfe Mullen Safer Neighbourhood Team received two cycles from the Corfe Mullen Co-op and Corfe Mullen Home Watch.

The bicycles, GT hybrids, will have distinctive police markings which will help to provide high visibility patrolling.

These new bicycles will give the teams greater flexibility in patrol routes, increase visible police presence in the area and help the Safer Neighbourhood Teams to police the area more effectively.

Police Community Support Officer Matt Brennan, from Wimborne Town and Leigh Park Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Wimborne Safer Neighbourhood Teams asked our partner agencies if funding for some new personal issue bicycles was available.

“The response was outstanding and all four teams would like to thank all of the organisations and businesses that helped fund these new bicycles for us.

“Samways & Son have also been very helpful offering us a discount, securing all the bicycles and equipping them with everything needed to help us with our day to day cycle patrols.”

Mike Darkin, East Dorset Neighbourhood Inspector, said: “This is, yet again, a great example of partners and police working together to support policing at a local level.

“I am immensely grateful for the continued support our partners give us in East Dorset and in return this will enable my Safer Neighbourhood teams to be as visible as possible throughout the area.”
