Diverse Abilities Plus has for over 50 years changed the lives of children and adults with profound and complex physical and learning disabilities.  This is necessary as across our community there are many families facing the challenges of caring for a child or adult with disabilities, and often very complex medical needs too.  Diverse Abilities Plus therefore aims to provide as much support for these families as possible.  We are the only charity in the county which supports individuals throughout their whole life.

We have helped hundreds of children and adults to gain greater confidence and independence through the provision of a lifetime of education, opportunities and support.  The charity is particularly special as we endeavours to provide support for people and families throughout their whole lives, with many of the adults we support have previously benefitted from our children’s projects.  This offers families great solace and reassurance as their children are teenagers, as most support they receive ends at 18!

We provide a specialist school, respite home, holiday and after school clubs and activities, advice and advocacy, supported living accommodation and an adult day opportunities centre.

To support this work we are keen to work with people from across our community, whether to assist with vital fundraising or volunteer in one of the many varied and rewarding areas we can offer volunteers.  Likewise, we are very keen to ensure we support as many local people as possible through our services, so hope that with time more and more families will come to learn of the support they could receive through Diverse Abilities Plus.
